Happy birthday to you!

So, one of us has a birthday this year. And that will tick the age over to a multiple of 10, although over the age of 60 all birthdays are 'big ones'. What to do to celebrate?

Me: You know it's a big birthday this year, we ought to do something
Liz: Yes, be good to go somewhere
Me: We've got some airmiles left, wouldn't cost too much to go to the States or we could do somewhere in Europe for free
Liz: Flying is such a pain and where would we go that's different?
Me: Just spotted there are cheap deals on Eurostar - a romantic few days in Paris or Lille perhaps?
Liz: [in a bored tone] 'Spose that's an idea
Me: We could always see how far we can get on our bus pass, for a laugh
Liz: [excitedly] Oh, now that would be different, how far do you think we can get in a day?

And so it started ...
